It isn’t often that Soweto can boast a fun family outing of this nature, but the Kasi Fun Fair will soon be in town, and families are urged not to miss it.

The funfair rides available offer much to excite younger visitors of 3-12 years, and include a traditional carousel, an airplane-swing carousel, swing carousel, a scaled-down “Toy Carousel”, and a mini Ferris wheel.

Older children, adults and thrill-seekers will find their amusement on the Parachute Rocket Ride, Mechanical Surfboard, and large water-based slides.

In addition to these attractions, the grounds will host a large beer garden and numerous food stalls offering a wide range of tasty eats. The entire funfair precinct will be a designated friendly, safe, professional and service-orientated zone. Sports tournaments and talent shows will yield prizes and a great chance to test one’s mettle.

The fair’s organiser, Nomsa Sibeko, says “We’re thrilled to be the first to bring a funfair to the conveniently-situated Dorothy Nyembe Park, and hope that the public response will have us repeating this colourful event on an annual basis.”

Sidas Security has ensured fun-seekers that thugs, and bad behaviour of any sort will not be tolerated: “We will ensure that this is a place of fun and relaxation, where families will be able to enjoy themselves without being bothered by undesirable elements.”

There’ll be no need to clutch your wallet in despair if your children develop a fancy for particular ride, as your entrance fee takes care of all rides – once you’re in, you can ride any attraction to your heart’s content.

On April 3, the fun fair grounds will operate as usual, but, in addition to this family affair, a concert will be taking place next door to the fair, also in Dorothy Nyembe Park. The concert starts at 2pm and runs right the way through to 10pm.

Amongst the top-drawer artists performing will be Black Coffey, Zakes Bantwini, Proffesor, Teargas, Pro Kid, Khuli Chana, DJ Zintle, DJ Euphonic, DJ KG, DJ Tokzen, and DJ Toyoter. A show not to be missed!

The fair will provide Grade 11 and 12 pupils with work experience – and pocket money – as park attendants and ushers, and also intends to help raise funds for local schools through its interaction with local community leaders. In addition to the fun fair’s support for local schools, there will be four bursaries – valued at over R50 000 – made available to nurses, bookkeepers, IT technicians and policemen.

Families are advised to bring swimming costumes or a change of clothes, as Kasi boasts a collection of popular water-slides.

Guests are encouraged to bring blankets for the picnic spot, but are reminded that no food or drinks may be brought into the venue.
