Unisa Music Foundation Concert Series
Currently principal cor anglais player in the Hessian State Theatre Orchestra in Wiesbaden, Germany, André van Daalen studied at the University of Stellenbosch as well as in Germany and Spain. He made South African musical history when he became the first oboist to win the National ATKV Muzique Competition in 2004.
The programme consists of Three Romances by Schumann as well as a transcription of three Schumann Lieder, a transcription of two movements from Beethoven’s Wind quintet in E-flat major and the Oboe sonata Op 166 by Saint-Saëns. After the interval a sonata by Milanese composer Carlo Yvon follows, as well as Sicilienne (Fauré), Pièce en forme de Habanera (Ravel) and Capriccio, Op 80 by Ponchielli.
