Malcolm Nay, one of South Africa’s finest chamber pianists, has won numerous prestigious scholarships and awards, including the P.J. Lemmer Scholarship for Overseas Study in 1978.  His scholarships enabled him to study at the University of Cincinnati and the University of Washington under the famous Hungarian concert pianist Béla Siki. While studying in the US, he performed extensively in live radio broadcasts. On his return to South Africa he received more prizes including, the Norman Nossel Scholarship at the International Piano Competition in Pretoria in 1982 as well as second place in the International Piano Competition in Montevideo in 1986.
Arlene Jaftha obtained a degree in music from the University of Cape Town in 2000. She has sung in various roles including Marianne in Der Rosenkavalier (R. Strauss), Lucy in Treemonisha (Joplin), the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors (Menotti) and Giannetta in L’elisir d’amore (Donizetti).
Since 1991, Elizabeth Frandsen has performed as a soloist in various opera, oratorio, lieder, musicals and choral works in South Africa and overseas. Her roles include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart), Mimi in La Bohème (Puccini) and Violetta in La Traviata (Verdi) as well as soprano and alto parts for the Rossini and Pergolesi Stabat Mater.
Lukhanyo Moyake was born in Lady Frere in the Eastern Cape. He obtained a degree in opera at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and has performed with the world-renowned Renée Fleming during her recent South African tour. He is currently part of the Cape Town Opera Studio and working towards his Postgraduate Diploma with Prof. Brad Liebl. In 2010 he played the roles of Animal Vendor and the Landlord in Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier (Strauss) amongst other roles.
Thato Machona graduated at the University of Cape Town with a Performers’ Diploma in Opera and is a member of the Cape Town Opera Studio. In the Opera school productions he has performed roles such as Schaunard in La Bohème (Puccini), Morales in Carmen ( Bizet), Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart) Lord Sidney in Il viaggio a Reims (Rossini) and Belcore in L’elisir’ d’ amore (Donizetti).
