Jonathan Oshry (piano) recital

The outstanding young South African Jonathan Oshry will be presented in recital by the Richard Wagner Society of South Africa on Sunday, May 29.

Oshry will play the Sonata in E flat by Schubert, D960, as well as a selection of works by Bach.
Jonathan Oshry, who was born in Durban, studied at the University of Natal under Isabella Stengel, then at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Ronan O’Hora. He obtained a second Masters’ degree with distinction from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. 
He has won many scholarships and bursaries, including an Associated Board Music Scholarship for postgraduate study at the Royal Northern College of Music and a bursary from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust. Oshry has won top national and international prizes, such as the 2001 Karic International Piano Competition, the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Competition, and the Spencer Boney and Sheriff’s prizes at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Oshry performs regularly as soloist with the major South African orchestras and has a repertoire that includes over twenty concertos. His recordings are broadcast frequently on Classic FM, FMR and BBC Radio 3. His CD of the Chopin Scherzi was released a year ago to critical acclaim. It has received substantial airplay on US and South African radio, and was highly praised in Fanfare magazine’s January 2011 issue.
