NMMU Voice Studio Concert

NMMU Voice Studio Concert

The NMMU Department of Music presents a Voice Studio Lunch Hour Concert with the combined studios of both Lionel van Zyl and newly appointed voice lecturer, Njabula Mthimkhulu’s students.

The performance will feature a variety of voice students in a programme consisting mainly of evergreen ensembles from both operas and musicals.

Students performing at this event, include an interesting new voice from Nigeria, the 25 year old Olusegun Soyemi – only the 2nd counter tenor in 25 years at the Music Department.

Liske Potgieter will sing the famous coloratura aria- Ou va la jeune Indoue, better known as The Bell Song from Delibes’ opera, Lakmé.  Also some Mozart ensembles: from Zauberflöte and the always copular Lá ci darem from Don Giovanni.

Two noteworthy works to be performed are the beautiful quartet Mir ist so wunderbar rom Beethoven’s Fidelio, and the tuneful ensemble Brüderlein und Schwesterlein from Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss (jnr).

On a more entertaining note from South Pacific, a female ensemble will Wash that man right outta my hair while the male ensemble will lament Nothin’ like a dame from Showboat!

A definite audience hit will be the robust baritone aria, Oh Lord, I’m on my way, from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess.
