Organ Recital by Grant Brasler

Grant Brasler started organ lessons at the age of 14 with Garmon Ashby and continued his music studies with Dr Barry Smith at UCT, where he completed his B.Mus. Hons in 1998. Since 1999 he has had occasional lessons with Prof Wim Viljoen in Pretoria. He was awarded the Claude Brown Organ Scholarship for post-matric studies at the Diocesan College (Bishops) in 1993. He was the winner of the Adcock Ingram Music Competition in 1996 at UCT and the Stephanus Zondagh Overseas Organ Scholarship from UNISA in 2000.

He appeared in the first concert of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra at St George’s Cathedral in 2001 when he played the Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 and a Handel Organ Concerto. As an organ and harpsichord continuo player, Grant has been involved with the former CAPAB Orchestra, the Cape Town Baroque Ensemble and the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra. As an organ accompanist he has performed with many Cape Town choirs including overseas tours with the St George’s Singers (1996) and the Philharmonia Choir (2001).

Grant Brasler has been organist and a music teacher at St Cyprian’s School since 1999 and was appointed as Assistant Organist of St George’s Cathedral at the beginning of 2002.
