Sakura Nakada Piano Recital

Somerset West Music Society presents a recital by 15 year-old Sakura Nakada.

Nakada will perform Haydn’s Andante with Variations in F minor, Beethoven’s Sonata in F major Opus 10 No 2, Mendelssohn’s Spinning Song, the celebrated Fantasie-Impromptu in C# minor Op 66 by Chopin plus 2 movements from Peter Klatzow’s Suite ‘Going Places’.

Born in Italy of Japanese parents, Nakada has studied the piano since the age of six. She participated in the 4th National Competition for Young Musicians in Massa, Italy, in February 2003, and was awarded 3rd place. In the same year she participated in the 12th National Competition in Riviera della Versilia and was awarded 3rd place. 

Her family emigrated from Italy to South Africa in December 2003 and she has been studying with John Antoniadis since May 2005. Sakura is currently a grade 10 pupil at Somerset College where she had been awarded an academic scholarship for 5 years. She was a semi-finalist in the Sanlam Competition in 2007.
