Winnie - The Opera
Under the watchful eyes of the international media, the “Mother of the Nation,” Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, one of the iconic figures in the struggle against Apartheid, is subpoenaed to appear before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).
On the ninth and final day of the hearing, the woman who personified South Africa’s struggle for freedom is confronted by legal counsel who accuse her of unthinkable crimes. Her defiance in the face of these charges evokes her memories of a fragmented life of tragedies and triumphs.
With Tsakane Valentine Maswanganyi as Winnie and the Kwazulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Mr Jonas Alber.
