Odeion School of Music presents annual opening concert

11.03.2017  The Odeion School of Music (OSM) at the University of the Free State will present its annual opening concert on 16 March 2017.

The main work on the programme will by the Concertino for Clarinet & Chamber orchestra by South African composer, Keith Moss. The soloist will be Danrè Strydom (photo) and the Odeion School of Music Camerata (OSMC) will be conducted by Xavier Cloete.

Keith Moss currently resides in Auckland, New Zealand and dedicated the concertino to the South African luthier, Dawne Haddad. The work was commissioned by the SAMRO Foundation for the Odeion School of Music Camerata during the first International Clarinet Extravaganza (2016) which was hosted by the OSM with Danrè Strydom as curator and founder. The internationally acclaimed clarinettist, Eddy Vanoosthuyse, was the soloist for the première.

The first half of the programme will feature performances by top Odeion School of Music students Margot Viljoen (piano), Nina Cilliers (flute), Charity Leburu (soprano), Chris van Zyl (cello) and Eljee du Plooy (organ).

The concert takes place at the Odeion Concert Hall in Bloemfontein and will be broadcast by Fine Music Radio on a later date (to be announced).
