Christmas with Hanneli Rupert

Christmas with Hanneli Rupert

December 2010 marks the re-release of mezzo-soprano Hanneli Rupert’s recording of Christmas songs, recorded in 1998 with the Cape Town Sinfonietta in the Endler Hall, Stellenbosch.

It features a number of well-loved compositions performed in English, Afrikaans, and German with arrangements by Peter Klatzow, Peter Louis van Dijk, Zorada Temmingh and Louis Heyneman.

Hanneli Rupert has established herself as a successful Lieder recitalist as well as a distinguished performer of oratorio. Especially noted as an interpreter of the music of Mahler, she has also earned acclaim in the repertoires of Bach and Brahms. In 1996 her CD recording of Brahms Lieder with the renowned pianist Graham Johnson was released by EMI Classics. Ms Rupert’s recording of song cycles by Gustav Mahler and the Wesendonck Lieder by Richard Wagner with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra under Bernhard Gueller was released on the RCA Red Seal label. She was the soloist in the world premiere of Alfred Schnittke’s oratorio Nagasaki, also with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, published under the BIS label.
