Wessel van Wyk Piano Favourites 4
Renowned South African pianist, Wessel van Wyk has released a new CD, Wessel van Wyk Piano Favourites Volume 4 (KLA4CD 04). As with his previous three albums, this is a collection of the world’s best-loved piano favourites.
The album consists of 18 timeless piano jewels and because of Van Wyk’s years of experience as a musician, the repertoire takes the listener on a journey of varied moods provided by these short compositions. Among the works are: the Schubert/Liszt Ave Maria, Chopin’s Nocturne Op.9 No.2, Tchaikovsky’s Romance Op.2 as well as Rachmaninoff’s Variation No. 18 (the signature tune of the “Du Plooys van Soetmelksvlei” a favourite radio series years ago, effectively adapted by the pianist himself).
The repertoire satisfies the tastes of serious classical music lovers as well as those who appreciate the beauty of a lovely melody. The passionate rendering of works such as the Schubert/Liszt’s “The Trout” (Die Forelle) , Chopin’s Grand Valse Brilante, Op. 18, Liszt’s Regata and virtuoso Spanish compositions by Lecuona and De Falla, provide a balance to the album.
The Songs without Words (by Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky recpectively) transport one to a nostalgic world of fantasy relaxing at the end of the day. Concise programme notes provide information on the works in a well-compiled eight-page booklet.
The CD is being distributed by Amaranth Digital (tel 012-3427517 / 082-875 3406 or e-mail: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) ) countrywide.
