Carin Bam is one of Cape Town’s most sought after oboists and woodwind teachers. She started playing the oboe at the age of thirteen at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre in Parow. She completed her studies in 2000 at the University of Stellenbosch, under the tutelage of Sergei Burkodov.

She returned to the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre in 2001 as an oboe and bassoon teacher and is currently the Head of Department: Woodwinds. Her students have excelled in various Board exams, Eisteddfod and competitions, most recently the Sanlam, SAMRO Hubert van der Spuy, Pieter Kooij and Artscape Music Competitions.

She is and an active ad hoc orchestral member playing with several professional orchestras, including Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, Kwa-Zulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Namibian National Symphony Orchestra and is also regular player with many ad hoc orchestras throughout South Africa.

As an avid chamber musician, Carin regularly performs at venues that include Artscape and the Baxter Concert Hall, as well as the Greyton Classics for All Festival amongst others. She has been invited to perform as a soloist with the Winelands Orchestra, Hugo Lambrechts Symphony Orchestra and Musicanti Chamber Orchestra.

In 2010 Carin completed her UNISA Licentiate in Music Performance and was placed on the Roll of Honour and in 2012 recorded works by South African composer Neil Solomon with Pieter van Zyl.
