Dr. Tinus Botha received his musical training at the University of Pretoria, Music Academy of the West (Santa Barbara) and Texas Christian University (Fort Worth).

His teachers have included well-known figures such as Joseph Stanford, Jerome Lowenthal, José Feghali and Harold Martina.

He has also participated in master classes by Andrzej Jasinski, Guangren Zhou, Martino Tirimo, Gustavo Romero and Russell Sherman, among others.

He has won a number of prizes and awards, among them the DJ Roode Overseas Music Scholarship that enabled him to further his studies abroad.

Tinus has featured as soloist with a number of South African orchestras, including the Artium Orchestra, CAPAB, NAPOP, COSA, Pro Musica, University of Pretoria Symphony Orchestra, CPO and the Pretoria Symphony Orchestra.

As a chamber musician he has collaborated with a number of South Africa’s foremost artists, and is regularly invited to serve as official accompanist at Unisa’s international music competitions.

He is also an examiner for Unisa’s directorate of music.

In 2008, his formal studies concluded with the conferral of the DMus (performing arts) degree by the University of Pretoria.

Dr Botha was employed as acting subject specialist at the Directorate of Music, Unisa and is currently appointed as Senior Lecturer in piano performance and methodology, as well as chamber music, at North West University in Potchefstroom.
