Kobie Temmingh Swart is a Music Therapist and Guided Imagery (GIM) Fellow and has a private practice in Honeydew Manor, Johannesburg.

• Registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) under the Arts Therapies, since 1996, practice number 067 000 0294888.
• Co-founder of the Master’s Degree Program in Music Therapy at the University of Pretoria, initiated in 1999.
• Currently still part time lecturer, dissertation and clinical supervisor for the M.Mus. Music Therapy Program at the University of Pretoria.
• Private Music Therapy practice in Johannesburg, working with adults and children, and offering group workshops and courses aimed at personal development and growth.
• Currently working towards establishing CATC – Creative Arts Therapies Center, in Johannesburg.

Kobie is qualified to use the following Music Therapy approaches:

• GIM (Guided Imagery and Music – The Bonny Method):  A well-researched and powerful psychotherapeutic method, involving music listening (mostly classical music) and imaging during deeper states of consciousness, well-suited for personal exploration, development and growth, creative development, spiritual development, dealing with difficult emotions and relationships, life transitions and decisions, physical illness and stress related problems, mood and anxiety disorders, not appropriate for severe mental illness.
• Creative Music Therapy: An active clinical-musical approach involving music improvisation on a variety of instruments, well-suited for clients with mental, communicative, physical disabilities and psychiatric disorders (no musical skill or training required).
• Community Music Therapy: A group musical improvisation and performance approach, with community building, empowerment, development of autonomy, agency and self confidence as main goals.
• MARI (Mandala Assessment Research Instrument): A well-researched system using symbols and colors to explore current states and problems.

Formal Qualifications:

• B.Mus. and B.Mus. Honors degrees, both cum laude – Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education
• Master’s Degree in Music Therapy, cum laude (member of Pi Kappa Lambda Society, an American Honor Society for highest academic achievement, musical excellence, personal integrity) –
Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, USA
• Qualified GIM Fellow and Associate Trainer – Institute Imago, Germany; Registered with AMI – Association for Music and Imagery – regulating GIM training and practice worldwide
• Qualified MARI Practitioner
