The Con Spirito Music Society is a non-profit organization under the leadership of music director,  Dr. Erns Conradie. The society has two divisions: Chamber and Philharmonic . 

The Con Spirito Music Society aims to provide a venue and opportunity for young and other music-making talented musicians through its quality performances of classical music for all music lovers. In addition it serves as a platform for professional South African musicians to have alternative orchestral and soloistic opportunities to fulfill their career paths.

The Con Spirito Music Society was founded in 1999 with the main aim to promote the performing arts to the general public through the presentation of regular Classical chamber music concerts in mainly the northern suburbs of Cape Town.

The year 2006 saw the birth of the Con Spirito Philharmonic Division.  This year was marked as the Commemoration year of Mozart’s 250th birthday and as part of the the festivities the society arranged four concerts on a large scale, each representing the different genres of the composer’s ouvre. The Newly formed Con Spirito Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra was conducted by Erns Conradie. The choir consists of singers form throughout the Western Cape and the orchestra is formed on an ad hoc basis.

Many leading soloists have performed in the philharmonic concerts.These include internationally acclaimed pianists, Anton Nel, Nina Schumann and Luis Magalais (the first performance in SA of the Brahms Requiem with the composer’s original piano duet-version). Maria du Toit and Avigail Bushakevitz amongst others, with some invited artists from abroad as well.

To date, the Con Spirito Music Society has released 2 DVD recordings and a double CD.

Choral performances form an integral part of the orchestral concerts, and these have included major works by Handel ( Messiah) , Haydn ( The Creation), Mozart’s Requiem and various choral works by compsers like J.S.Bach, Schubert, Gounod, Vivaldi Faure and many more. 

The regular venue of the Con Spirito Chamber Music Division is the manor house at George and Annie Starck Homes,  situated in Frans Conradie Drive in Bellville, while the Welgemoed DRC Auditorium in Dias Street, Welgemoed, Bellville is regularly being used as the venue for the Philharmonic’s Symphony concerts.  This building is particularly useful for the different needs of these concerts, due to the satisfactory number of seating, favourable acoustical conditions and the availability of an adequate organ to allow the performance of a wide repertoire range.

Membership of the Chamber Music Division is directed to 6 Chamber Music concerts per annum, while 5 Symphony concerts are annually being presented individually.
