Musica Mundi

Musica Mundi

The Musica Mundi music society was founded by the late Mrs. Gisela Lange who was in charge of culture at the German Consulate General in Cape Town.

After her retirement in the Mother City she continued to dedicate her time to culture in the beautiful city. Mainly focussing onto the German community in the past, Musica Mundi is now embracing a wider audience with classical concerts of a consistently high quality.

They promote local musicians, but, at times, funds and sponsors permitting, they also invite international musicians, sometimes celebrities. Backed by a trust fund, and often helped by sponsors like the German Consulate General of Cape Town, Musica Mundi’s aim is not to make profits, but to showcase excellent musicians to a growing audience at unbeatable prices.

Their setup even permits us to offer snacks and finger foods after the concerts, all included in the low entrance fees.  The venue encourages active interaction with the artists and likeminded people over a glass of wine and delicious finger foods.

Most concerts of Musica Mundi are held at the excellent Konrad Taeuber Saal, an auditorium with good accoustics and with comfortable upholstered seating in ascending rows at the German International School Cape Town in Tamboerskloof. There is secure and ample parking on the school grounds.

So, why don’t you go to their next concert?

After an enjoyable evening Alice will bid you farewell with her trademark exclamation: “See you at the next concert - Bis zum nächsten Konzert”.
