Pro Musica Divina Orchestra

Pro Musica Divina is an ad-hoc professional chamber orchestra consisting of freelance professional musicians from in and around Cape Town.

Primarily a string orchestra, it has been in existence since 1999, but performing more regulary since 2009.  Repertoire performed ranges from Mozart’s Symphonies, Clarinet Concerto and Violin Concerto no. 5 (Turkish), to Mendelssohn string symphonies and Frank Bridge’s String Serenade.

Pro Musica Divina is conducted by Dr. Steven van der Merwe and is led by Quentin Crida (also leader of the Camerata Tinta Barocca).

The orchestra’s usual performance venues can be found in the Southern Peninsula, mostly at the picturesque St. Norbert’s Priory in Kommetjie.

A highlight on the 2011 concert calendar will be the premiere performance of Eleven - a Requiem for a Parent, composed by the orchestra’s conductor, Dr Steven van der Merwe. The event is scheduled to take place at the St George’s Cathedral in Cape Town on Friday 11 November at 19h00.
