Audivi at St Andrew’s on 8 November

05.11.2013 The Audivi Vocal Ensemble was established in 1994 by a small group of students at the South African College of Music with a common interest in Early Music. Some founder members are still singing with the Ensemble and membership has increased since its formation. The ensemble will perform at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Cape Town on 8 November at 20h00 with their programme Angels and Demons – the Venetian Connection.

The group performs music mainly from the Renaissance and Baroque eras, though they occasionally explore music from later periods. Much of their repertoire is sung a capella and they are fortunate to have members skilled in playing recorders, viols and lute, as well as early keyboard instruments. They have given concerts at St Norbert’s Priory (Kommetjie), St Francis Church (Simon’s Town), St George’s Cathedral, St Cyprian’s School Chapel and Voorkamer (Oranjezicht), as well as the Josephine Mill and Erin Hall (Rondebosch).

Audivi is directed by Grant Bräsler (photo), Organist and Master of the Choristers at St George’s Cathedral. Grant started organ lessons, aged 14, with Garmon Ashby at the Diocesan College (Bishops). He was appointed Organ Scholar at St George’s Cathedral in 1994 and later became Assistant Organist. In 2007 he was appointed Organist and Director of Music at St Paul’s Church in Rondebosch, prior to returning to the Cathedral in 2013. In addition to his work at St George’s Cathedral, Grant is a part-time lecturer in Organ at UCT and teaches music at the Western Province Preparatory School. He also performs regularly as continuo player and soloist with the Baroque ensemble, Camerata Tinta Barocca.
